1.  What is Hampden Village Main Street, Inc. (HVMS)?

HVMS is a volunteer-based commercial revitalization effort to enhance and energize our community.

2.  How does HVMS work?

The community, lead by a local Main Street Board of Directors and advised by the National Main Street Center, organize into well-defined committees that follow the four point approach.

3.  What is the Main Street Four Point approach?

The Main Street program's success is based on a comprehensive strategy of work in four broad areas called the Main Street Four Point Approach:

Design
Enhance the visual quality of the commercial environment.

Promotion
Create an awareness of the community for businesses, residents, shoppers and tourists.

Organization
Create an information network and promote the local Main Street organization.

Economic Restructuring
Strengthen the community's existing economic base while also diversifying our economic assets.

4.  Does HVMS receive financial support from the government?

Through funding from the State of Maryland, HVMS receives public support from the Baltimore Main Streets program.  This financial support is decreased each year, as HVMS becomes financially self-sufficient.

5.  How are public and private investments spent?

The funds are raised by HVMS through public and private investments are used for operation expenses as well as projects such as improved infrastructure, streetscape beautification efforts, facade improvement grants, and community festivals and special events.
